Need Holiday Spirit?

If in New york City:
Go see the Christmas Spectacular Show with the Rockettes!

I saw this show 2 years ago and it really was spectacular. It's a great show to get you and your family in the holiday mood! :)

Local:
Go see "Twas the Night Before Christmas" this show is showing next week at The Miracle Mille Theater, in Coral Gables.

I've heard many great reviews off this show. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm seeing it next week. :)
And I'm sure it will lift my holiday spirit.

Also I wish you all a...

Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Chanukah, Happy New Year, HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

RENT

Is the next show Cypress Bay's AMT class will be performing next semester. Also I just saw RENT this past Sunday afternoon. It was an amazing production, and I just can't wait to take it to Cypress! The competition is going to be killer, I'm already prepping on audition pieces for the new musical.

This semester is very different for AMT. AMT is now allowing freshmen in the class which makes more people, and that means more competition. Plus with such a popular musical people are just flocking in from left to right. Make sure to keep updated with the announcements and come see the show! I'm positive it will be one of Cypress's best shows yet!

6510!

Thespians is this weekend and I couldn't be more excited! The large group I am in is performing the song, "Where Will You Stand When The Flood Comes" from the musical Parade. I'm literally jumping for joy it just looks amazing. It didn't always start out amazing but we all really pulled it together and I couldn't be happier!

Also Saturday i will be performing a duet with my best friend Carolyn. Were singing the song, "In his Eyes" from the broadway musical Jekyl & Hyde. The only problem is that Carolyn has laryngitis. Which is the worst thing that can happen to a singer. Laryngitis those of you who don't know what is it, is like catching a cold. Except you loose your voice, and to sing you kinda really need it. Hopefully a miracle happens and her voice completely comes back!
On a positive note go troupe 6510! :)

December 9th-12th, 2009
~understudies night Friday the 11th wink wink (;

7PM in the auditorium
$5 PRESALE
$7 AT THE DOOR

Kiss Me Kate is actually very similar to the play were reading in class, Taming of the Shrew. The show is about people putting on the show, Taming of the Shrew. When watching you will hear all the Shakespeare lines from the actual play, I started noticing that today in class. For instance there is a song called, "I've come to wive it wealthily in Padua." Which I found very funny reading yesterday in class. If you see the show you'll be laughing along with me! Don't make me look like that crazy girl in the corner laughing to herself over Shakespeare stuff...
So come see Kiss Me Kate! Mark it in your calendars, Be there or be square! And trust me you won't look as cute as Sponge Bob. So see you there! :)

Troop 6510!

That would be Cypress Bay's troop number for district and state competitions. What districts and states you may be asking? Well it is a place where people in theater get to perform in front of a set of judges and the judges give them constructive criticism. Drama students from all over the county go and perform to represent their school. These type of students are called, "thespians." You would perform such things as a large group musical, small group, a duet, a solo, a monologue, or etc. Then you or your group will get a certain ranking.

Rankings
Poor :(
Fair :/
Good :}
Excellent :)
Superior :D

Then the top honor your troop can receive is a critics choice. That is when the judges compare all the very best performances and choose the most superior one at of them all. Hopefully troop 6510 gets some critics choices it would be truly an honor.
I'm personally performing in a large group and a duet musical and they both still need a bunch of work. Competitions are coming right after thanksgiving break! Ahhhhh!!!! But on a positive note go troop 6510!

What to blog about...

At the moment I don't know what to blog about. I feel like I'm having a brain fart, a writers block, you get what I'm saying, well hopefully. Anyways this week was tedious, and extremely stressful. I honestly don't think there was one day I had some down time to catch my breath. Monday, is just everyones favorite day of the week. Haha NO! I had homework that night like you couldn't even imagine oh and to top that I was volunteering at Falcon Cove till about 7 at night. Then Tuesday, I had club meetings at school, then right after that I had to go to band rehearsal from 4-7. Then soon after that the band and I went perform at this little music place which was really fun, but boy was I exhausted after! We all didn't get home until about 11:30 at night. Even though Cypress Bay had a day off on Wednesday, my chaotic lifestyle did not stop! I woke up exhausted from the night before with barley any sleep and BAM! There was my singing teacher waiting for me outside my door. Two hours after that I had a large group rehearsal for districts from 3-6:30 at night. Oh and my day still goes on! I went home to eat dinner for literally ten minutes and not a surprise I was out the door again! Off to math tutoring. Which is definitely a life savor for me, math really isn't my thing.
Then DING DING DING! We come to today which went on far too long. Oh wait hey it's still going on, you see what I mean! After school today I went to large group rehearsals once again which went very well today, so that made me happy. Then after that I went over to volunteer at Falcon Cove Middle School again which was fine. Now, here I am writing in this blog which I should have wrote yesterday or the day before that. As you can see my schedule is just overly crazy. Mrs. Stoklosa I apologize for writing all my blog responses today. Hopefully you will find somewhere in your kind, kind heart to forgive me. :)
And for those people who actually read this whole thing BRAVO! You have finally reached the end of this posting. :)

"Kiss Me Kate" update....

As you all know this semester, AMT, (American Musical Theater) class is putting on the show "Kiss Me Kate." The show is really coming together and it's looking amazing! If you have never seen a Cypress Bay High School show, your truly missing out on some great work put on by your fellow students of Cypress Bay. This is just an early reminder, so mark your calendars! The show opens on December 9 and goes through the 12th. Lead cast performances are the 9th, 10th, and 12th, but don't forget about understudy cast on the 11th! I'm actually in understudy cast, so hint hint if you want to see me sing the 11th is the day to go! :)
Just go see both casts, it's a totally different show with either cast you go to. Their both definitely worth seeing, I give you my word. Prices go from $10-$20 I believe. So go support your school and bring friends, you'll all enjoy this one!

A Dog Eat Dog World

Rejection is not an easy thing to go through. In theater rejection is a very common thing. Actors have to go through this routine daily. It's either your too fat or too skinny, or too short or too tall. When auditioning you will get more no's than you will get yeses. Theater is a dog eat dog world. Everyone's always up against each other. This process is probably my least favorite of the theater.
Another difficult thing actors have to go through, is a little thing called "favoritism." This is very annoying when this happens. Sometimes your other fellow actors will just suck up to the directors until they get what they want. Or the director plays fault here too. At times, some directors have certain "favorites." By favorites I mean the director likes this certain person very much and likes giving them all the parts. Whether if they are talented or not. Also bribing is a big one as well, when somebody pays the director to give them the part they want. As you can see theater is not always fair. People will be people and bend and shape the rules in whichever way they want. Sometimes the most talented people don't get what they deserve.
I have personally gone through this and so have many of my close friends. You eventually learn how to deal with this nonsense and move on. The good part from this is that you build a stronger backbone and it makes it easier to take in rejection and yes favoritism too. Even though theater has it's ups and downs, if you really love it; it's worth all the pain and tears. And it definitely is. :)

A challenge I face

If you have been reading my latest blogs you can see I love performing more then anything in the world. I just love all forms of the arts, it just I don't know makes my heart sing haha. But there is a problem I face dealing with performing. I am dyslexic and it is a huge part of my life. I'm currently writing a report on it as well. Dyslexia is a reading disability when your own native language is difficult for you to read, spell and write. Also when words move all around the page which make you get very dizzy. I thought I should share this on my blog because dyslexia is also a huge part of my life.
Not only is it problem but a gift at the same time. Dyslexic people as myself seem to strive in things such as the arts, drama, etc. Which I found very interesting because that's what I do best. So not only does dyslexia effect my life in negative ways but also in positive ways as well. Did you know that famous actors such as Tom Cruise is dyslexic? As you can see in the picture below there are multiple famous actors that are dyslexic even scientists such as Albert Einstein.

Being dyslexic also has it's down falls as well, such as writing this posting. I must have used the spell check at least twenty times already. It's very frustrating but hey what am I going to do about it. I found out I was dyslexic just last year. So currently I am fighting for my rights as a dyslexic student. Hopefully the school board will give me the accommodations I need to succeed in both school and in theater. In theater because as an actor the theater has things called "cold readings" which mean you go up and read something you've never seen before and perform to the best of your level reading the script. As you can imagine I will be up there stumbling over every word. Which makes me feel very unintelligent. So hopefully the school board will agree to give me the help I need to succeed in school and what I love to do.

Staying Healthy

As you all know the flu has been going around and  a lot of people in our school have been getting very sick.  As a performer you always have to stay on top of your game and stay healthy. I constantly have to worry about my voice. It's a huge aspect of what I do as a performer. Doing something as simple as screaming at a football game can mess with your voice. I made a promise to my voice coach I will give up screaming, which is kinda hard because I'm easily frightened. But I commit to it.  I also have to be put on special vitamins and have to gargle all different types of disgusting mixtures that are good for your throat. Some of these mixtures would be such as, salt water, drinking Honey, gargling whisky, lemon juice, etc..  Those would be some of the tortuous things singing performers have to deal with to keep your voice healthy. Vitamin C is also a great way to keep your immunity up. Orange juice is delicious I drink it almost with every meal. It's sounds gross to some people but hey this helps keeps me healthy.
If you have read my last blog I mentioned how I haven't been sleeping much which is not too good.  At the moment I am sick right now and it's not too fun. I blame my sleeping patterns, and busy schedule. My immunity must have gone down and I must have caught something. I've been coughing non-stop for the last week. I'm sure if your in my second hour, you witnessed me having a cough attack of some kind. I feel like I'm dying right now, and I need to get better. I have an audition later this week! It's kinda important I don't cough the whole way threw. Hopefully I will recover before the audition!

To start off my blog...

The life of a student performer is definitely not an easy life. I'm 15 years old going on 16, and I already have a passion in life. Obviously, from the name of my blog title, you can see that I love performing. What I do specifically is musical theatre. Live theatre feels so real to me. I take singing lessons once or twice a week. I volunteer my hours over at FCMS (Falcon Cove Middle) and help out their drama club. I'm their singing/assistant director, which I love. Helping out the kids at FCMS brings a lot of joy to my life. Man, that sounds really corny, but hey it's true. Also I'm in the CBHS (Cypress Bay High) production of "Kiss me Kate"; I play, "Hattie." This is my first show with CBHS and I couldn't be more thrilled! Getting a part as a sophomore is a big deal people have told me, which is an amazing feeling. I feel like I'm in a dream!
Pretty much a student performers daily life style is an exciting one, but it's not always just fun and games. It takes a lot of work, time, and energy. I am rarely ever home. I feel as though I live at school, no joke. I at school from 7 in the morning to 7 at night. Not to mention, I take dance class a few days a week. I also had a singing and dancing recital recently, which means I don't even get home until 8-9 at night. Not to mention I'm exhausted, oh and that you have piles and piles of homework to do. As you can imagine, I don't sleep much. But these are the sacrifices a student performer has to make. In the long run, you do it for the love and passion.
