A challenge I face

If you have been reading my latest blogs you can see I love performing more then anything in the world. I just love all forms of the arts, it just I don't know makes my heart sing haha. But there is a problem I face dealing with performing. I am dyslexic and it is a huge part of my life. I'm currently writing a report on it as well. Dyslexia is a reading disability when your own native language is difficult for you to read, spell and write. Also when words move all around the page which make you get very dizzy. I thought I should share this on my blog because dyslexia is also a huge part of my life.
Not only is it problem but a gift at the same time. Dyslexic people as myself seem to strive in things such as the arts, drama, etc. Which I found very interesting because that's what I do best. So not only does dyslexia effect my life in negative ways but also in positive ways as well. Did you know that famous actors such as Tom Cruise is dyslexic? As you can see in the picture below there are multiple famous actors that are dyslexic even scientists such as Albert Einstein.

Being dyslexic also has it's down falls as well, such as writing this posting. I must have used the spell check at least twenty times already. It's very frustrating but hey what am I going to do about it. I found out I was dyslexic just last year. So currently I am fighting for my rights as a dyslexic student. Hopefully the school board will give me the accommodations I need to succeed in both school and in theater. In theater because as an actor the theater has things called "cold readings" which mean you go up and read something you've never seen before and perform to the best of your level reading the script. As you can imagine I will be up there stumbling over every word. Which makes me feel very unintelligent. So hopefully the school board will agree to give me the help I need to succeed in school and what I love to do.

  2. I can completely relate to you. I'm probably going to get screened for a learning disorder called dyscalculia, which is a fancy name for math dyslexia. To me, numbers and signs get switched in my head and it really frustrates me. My basic math skills are so bad that I still have to count on my fingers just to add and subtract. My sense of direction is also terrible. I've lived in Weston for almost ten years and I still have no idea how to get anywhere. For all my life, I believed that I was just terrible at math and that I could never do any part of it right. But, I'm still taking honors math classes, working harder than most in an attempt to overcome my disability. My advice to you is to read all the time. I do so may extra math problems to help me understand. But, keep reading and writing because in the end it will help you and it'll be worth it.
